Sembabule District Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Joseph Ssekabito has ordered police to arrest Lwemiyaga Secondary school head teach for allegedly eloping with a student
Alex Naturinda the head teacher of Lwemiyaga Secondary school in Sembabule district is wanted for reportedly making away with a 17 year old senior four student.
The directive to arrest the school head teacher has been issued by the RDC during meeting convened at Lwemiyaga SS during the reopening of the school following a violent strike by the students protesting over poor welfare.
During the meeting the School administration, Police, RDC and the Education authorities also agreed that Naturinda who is currently on run be investigated for misappropriating school funds.
Marry Kobunsije has been appointed to take up the school as the acting head teacher as the board goes through the right procedure of getting a substantive head teacher.
Lwemiyaga Secondary school had been closed by education authorities and police following the student’s strike last week.
The Students had grievances such as eating poor quality posho, lack of lights in the school dormitory and irked by sudden suspension of students and teachers without genuine reasons from the school administration.
Paul Wambuzi Sembabule, Inspector of Schools says that preliminary investigations indicate that the head teacher Alex Naturinda had administrative issues such as high handiness, and delaying to pay teachers salaries among others.
He says that such issues angered a section of teachers that were not getting their salaries deciding to engineer a strike through students that destroyed school property that led to closure of the school last week.
Wambuzi says that they have also started indentifying ring leaders of the strike so that their names can be forwarded to the school disciplinary committee for disciplinary action.
Sembabule District Education Officer (DEO) Paul Bwana Nantamu, says that the most challenging issue at Lwemiyaga SS and the entire district is that many teachers are not on payroll though most of the schools are under Universal Secondary Education (USE) Program and others are government aided.
He says that this brings up delays in payments of teachers salaries and others are not paid at all because school authorities cannot manage to pay salaries which angers teachers prompting students to strike.
