Select committee on SGR starts work today

Parliament’s select committee meant to probe controversy surrounding the construction of the standard gauge railway starts work today.
On Tuesday last week, the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga named the 7-man team, chaired by Nakifuma MP, Sekitoleko Kafeero to investigate the controversy surrounding the construction of the standard gauge railway line.
This followed a petition by four MPs, who called for a probe into the procurement process and payment of 11 billion dollars to Chinese Habour Engineering Company.
The committee has been given two months to inquire into the procurement process; examine the contracts between government and advice on the budgetary implications and affordability.
It will further probe why the contract for China Civil Engineering Corporation was terminated as well as the ministers and officials involved in the process.
