Security has been tightened at the Supreme Court where former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu is expected to file an election petition challenging the victory of President Museveni.
Kyagulanyi has since contested the results announced by the electoral commission that show President Museveni was reelected with a 58.38% compared to his 35.08 percentage of the total votes cast.
The petition is to be filed from a tent that has been placed in the court premises to enable court users to observe covid 19 guidelines.
Meanwhile, the Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo has also arrived at the Supreme Court and advised journalists not to crowd court and to observe social distancing.
He has advised the media to instead be at a distance and use Zoom of their cameras to follow up the filling .
The NUP lawyers will not access the inside of the court premises as the court is observing the SOPs of COVID-19.
According to the court’s registrar Harriet Ssali, they are ready to receive the petition.
This will be the fourth time President Museveni’s election will be challenged, the previous occasions being 2001, 2006 and 2016.
