Reports of a new rebel group forming in Eastern Uganda have been down played by security experts.
The police chief General Kale Kaihura has often liked the recent killings in Mayuge, Namayingo and Bugiri districts to a new rebel group suspected to have links with the Allied Democratic Forces.
However, speaking to KFM, former ICT minister and security expert Mr. Aggrey Awori attributes the murders to religious strife between the main stream Muslim community and the Tabliques.
Mr. Awori says that one of the police officers killed in latest incident in Bugiri was his former body guard whom he knew very well.
Meanwhile, the Police have acknowledged escalating cases of gun violence in the Busoga region despite efforts to restore order and ensure security.
This comes after the recent murder of two police officers by unknown assailants.
Earlier in two separate developments, the leader of the Shia Muslim Sect and a Local Council chairman were murdered in cold blood.
According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, so far seven people have been arrested in connection to the murder of two police officers and three guns have been recovered in the process.
Enanga explains that police intelligence information has led to the arrest of one Muzata Ndifuna a resident of Namayingo who is said to the mastermind of the killings.
