A section of private secondary school owners is calling for financial support to facilitate the effective implementation of the new abridged secondary education curriculum.

The abridged curriculum was introduced after the 2-year covid-19 lockdown.

Following the full reopening of schools in January this year, the National Curriculum Development Centre developed a condensed curriculum for secondary schools that provides an opportunity for learners to catch up and transition back into the learning process for S.2, S.3, S.4, and S.6.

Under the abridged curriculum, some repeated topics were scrapped, and others merged with teachers required to focus on selected competencies that emphasize skills development.

However, the school owners say they need support, especially for science subjects that require financial and logistical implications such as laboratory equipment and chemicals.
