A police officer in Kamuli District has been lynched by angry residents for allegedly intervening to save suspected witch doctors.
Francis Kasolo, who was the Officer in Charge of the Crime Intelligence Investigations department was attacked and killed by residents of Kadungu village in Namasagali sub-county.
The Busoga North police spokesperson Michael Kasadha says the police officer met his death when he tried to rescue two traditional healers whom the residents had attacked for allegedly bringing evil spirits to the village.
Kasadha says one traditional healer had been killed and Kasolo was trying to whisk away the second one when the angry residents intercepted them along the way and hacked the police officer to death.
The bodies of both the police officer and traditional healer have been taken to Kamuli-Mulago hospital.
He adds that the police are on the ground to identify all the residents behind this mob justice for arrest.
