Disparities in education systems are working against efforts to have a common higher education area in East Africa.
This is a concern raised by the outgoing Executive Secretary of the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) Prof Mayunga Nkunya.
Speaking to KFM, Prof Nkunya said harmonization of the education systems is paramount to the integration process.
He says without harmonization, East African citizens will be isolated and will not be able to export labour beyond their countries or the even the region.
Prof Nkunya explains that the current global village requires graduates to acquire skills and qualifications that are recognised beyond national and continental borders.
