Rebel MPs in court 2

Court has declared the seats of the four expelled MPs vacant.

The same court has also ordered the electoral commission to carry out elections in the constituencies that the MPs represented.

In the same ruling by the constitutional court, the speaker of parliament has also been told to stop the MPs from attending any committee or plenary seating.

The judgement was delivered by Justice Steven Kavuma on behalf of the four judges who also included Richard Buteera, Faith Mwondha and Augustine Nsihimye

The judges also ordered that the parliament stops forthwith paying the MPs salaries and any emoluments

However justice Remmy Kasule differed from the rest saying that that a member cannot lose a seat in parliament due to his party affiliation unless he chooses to quit that party.

Speaking shortly after the ruling was delivered, one of the lawyers representing the embattled MPs George Kanyeihamba said his clients are to appeal before the Supreme Court.
