Prosecutors’ strike paralyses work at courts of law

David Kugonza | October 10, 2017

By Ruth Anderah:

The prosecutors’ strike has already started affecting the operations at the courts of law.

In Kampala, at both the KCCA and Buganda Road courts, no prosecutor has appeared this morning prompting the magistrates to adjourn cases to future dates without knowing the stage of investigations.

At both courts prison authorities have not produced suspects that are on remand, so magistrates are only working on cases involving suspects on bail.

State prosecutors have this morning resumed their strike following the expiry of the 90-day grace period given to the government to address their concerns which included salary increment, a tax waiver on their salaries and promotions among others.
