The pre-hearing of cases against Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana and Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya have to wait as prosecution asked Court to give them more time to enable them travel to Masaka interview the witnesses and give them protection.
Prosecution led by Richard Birivumbuka and Joseph Kyomuhendo says this process would have been done earlier in June 2022 but it was interrupted by the new financial year.
However, the defence lawyers led by Erias Lukwago are objecting to the prosecution’s application saying it is a delay of justice.
The lawyers adds that during the hearing of the MP’s bail application prosecution strongly objected to their temporary release saying they are ready to start prosecuting the accused persons but now to turn around to ask the 30 days adjourned is unfair.
The legislators are on a video conferencing appearing before the International Crimes Court Judge Jane Elizabeth Alidviza over cases in connection to the Bujambiya murders in Masaka district that left over 10 people hacked to death.
The two legislators and others are charged with counts of murder, attempted murder, Terrorism, and abetting terrorism.
