President Yoweri Museveni has been challenged to stop making empty promises regarding investigation of voter bribery allegations.
In his closing remarks at the chaotic NRM caucus meeting, President Museveni said allegations of vote buying and voter bribery in the ongoing EALA campaigns are to be investigated.
He said he had already given instructions to the security forces to take action against any one alleged to have given out money during the process.
However, the coordinator for the Citizen’s Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda, Crispy Kaheru tells KFM that there is no need for the president to call for investigations in voter bribery because political parties, the civil society and international observers have for years spoken about this ill.
Kaheru says that all the president needs to do is throw his weight behind the proposed Campaign Financing Law that criminalises acts of voter bribery at both party and national election level.
