As Uganda prepares to join the world in commemorating women’s day tomorrow, President Yoweri Museveni has outlined six areas that have to be implemented to end violence against women and girls.

Museveni listed ideology, education, economic empowerment, legislation and sensitization as the major issues those activists must deal with first to combat violence against women.

He says many female victims fear to report to police because the men who beat them are the ones that feed them and they have no other means of survival.

He says this can only stop once the women are empowered economically.

The president was speaking during the annual general meeting at the sixth Kigali International conference Declaration in Kampala.

The conference is aimed at understanding the role of security agencies to combat violence against women and girls.
