President Yoweri Museveni has attacked religious leaders who are against family planning.
The president’s attack was in response to Sheikh Haruna Muge of Ajumani district who refused to say a prayer at the opening of national conference on family planning in Kampala.
Sheikh Muge refused to say the opening prayer saying family planning was against God’s plan for mankind.
However, the president shot back explaining that family planning is aimed at ensuring that people produce children they can afford.
The president says promoting family planning in a holistic approach can help the country achieve economic growth.
The health state minister in charge of primary Health care Sarah Opendi says the country has made great strides with the family planning unmet need now standing at 34% down from 41% in 2002.
The three day conference is expected to discuss ways of ensuring increased access to family planning services to low income earners.
