President Yoweri Museveni has today been declared the NRM flag bearer for the 2016 presidential race.
He was nominated by the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Ruhakana Rugunda and seconded by Youth affairs minister Evelyn Anite and Hajji Abdul Kiyimba.
The declation of Museveni’s sole candidature was made by the NRM electoral Commission Chairman Tanga Odoi at the party headquarters at Kyadondo road.
Odoi adds that president Museveni’s candidature will be submitted to the party’s national conference on October 2nd for approval.
Speaking shortly after his official nomination, president Museveni has pledged to wipe out poverty and focus on industrialization.
He says with the industries in place value addition will be emphasized to help increase household incomes.
The NRM was earlier declared unopposed by the National Executive Committee for the position of party national chairman.
Sources that attended the closed door National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Entebbe say the party agreed to ring-fence the top most positions, ensuring that the chairman and his deputies are retained without competition.
President Museveni has has also blamed the high levels of corruption in government institutions on weak investigations and the courts.
Museveni said the government cannot act without evidence , adding that to address this they are increasing the number of NRM cadres in key government institutions like has been done in Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA0, Uganda Revenue Authority(URA) and Uganda National Roads Authority(UNRA).
