President Yoweri Museveni has called for collective effort among African countries to address the aflatoxins in Africa.
A study conducted by Makerere University, indicated that due to aflatoxins, Uganda’s total annual exports deteriorate by US$37.56 million per year.
While speaking in the 2nd Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act Partnership Platform Meeting today at Entebbe, president said that no single country can face the challenge of aflatoxins alone thus clear strategies involving all stakeholders must be adapted to mitigation this problem.
He explained that if not carefully addressed, the impacts of aflatoxins can significantly jeopardize Africa’s endeavors to meet Sustainable Development Goals, thus urgent interventions are needed.
He adds that the struggle must begin with the agricultural sector and later tackle other sectors.
