Museveni kyankwanzi again

President Yoweri Museveni is today expected to sign the Anti-Homosexuality Act into law.

This has been confirmed by the government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo.

He says the function is scheduled to take place at 11:00am at State House Entebbe.

The president had earlier refused to assent to the bill, citing the need for more research to be undertaken to establish whether homosexuals have a genetic disorder, but this was disproved by scientists.

This development however drew backlash from several quarters, with US President Barack Obama, issuing a strongly worded statement to Uganda and warning of dire consequences.

Obama said enacting the law would complicate the US relationship with Uganda, which the president did not take lying down.

Human rights bodies too have criticized the president for agreeing to assent to the law which they say violates human rights.
