Pope Francis has officially acknowledged receiving the government’s invitation to grace the canonization of Uganda Martyrs early next year.
The letter was delivered by the Archbishop of Kampala Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
According to Uganda Catholic Voices, Pope Francis has written back to President Museveni confirming receipt of the invitation for the Uganda Martyrs Celebrations in June 2015.
Pope Francis was expected in the country this year to preside over the canonization celebrations scheduled for October 18th.
However, due to prior commitments, he was unable to visit Uganda this year.”
According to Msgr Wynand Katende, a priest of the Archdiocese of Kampala, the invitation stands but there is no confirmation yet from Rome on the Pope’s visit.
