The police have vowed to maintain the heavy deployment across the country to counter the opposition’s renewed calls for protests.

The deputy police spokesperson Vincent Ssekate says the deployment was effected after they received intelligence information that the opposition pressure group Activists For Change (A4C) leaders had mobilized people especially boda boda cyclists to resume the walk to work protests across the country.

Ssekate says they are paying particular attention to the districts of Mbale, Kampala, Iganga, Jinja and Masaka where the worst chaotic scenes were reported during the earlier protests.

In Kampala there is heavy presence of anti riot police especially in the city center.

Ssekate says the officers will not be withdrawn until the situation returns to normalcy.

The walk- to work protests were launched in April this year by the A4C to express dissatisfaction with government over the high cost of living in the country.
