The police in Kabale district have stopped the Forum for Democratic Change from holding a planned mobilization campaign ahead of the forth coming LCI and II elections.
The party had set January 12th to begin the campaigns.
However, yesterday, the Kabale District Police Commander Dickens Bindeeba issued a letter addressed to the Kabale district FDC chairperson Lydia Turyahumura advising the party against carry out any such activities on grounds that the elections will not be held in January as had earlier been anticipated.
However the Kabale district FDC acting general secretary Richard Muhanguzi says the planned mobilization activities shall continue as scheduled adding that postponement of the voting date does not stop community mobilization.
The Electoral Commission is yet to release a roadmap for the grassroots elections after parliament yesterday passed the Local Government Amendment Bill 2016, which now awaits presidential assent.
The house also adopted a committee report that recommends that Local council elections be held not later than March 15th 2017.
