Police officer lynched in a foiled robbery

The police have confirmed that one of its officers has been killed by a mob over alleged robbery.

The police spokesperson Judith Nabakoba has identified the officer as Dan Kato attached to Wandegeya police station.

He and another unidentified man are said to have hijacked a special hire driver in Fort portal and attempted to strangle him.

In the scuffle that ensued, the car swerved off the road and when the suspected robbers tried to run way they were intercepted by passengers from a bus that was following closely lynching Kato to death.

Nabakoba has condemned the incident and the manner in which the deceased has been conducting himself.

Kato had been on suspension after he was arrested for taking a bribe from a motorist in Wandegeya.
