The case against Pastor Robert Kayanja’s accusers faced a delay on Wednesday.
One of the defendants requested additional time from the court to retrieve crucial evidence from an exhibit phone, necessary for their defense preparation. This request delayed the proceedings.
Consequently, Grade One Magistrate Adams Byarugaba of Mwanga II Court adjourned the matter until March 28, 2024, for a defense hearing.
The defendants face charges of trespassing and attempting to damage Pastor Robert Kayanja’s reputation with false sodomy accusations dating back to 2021.
On December 20, 2023, Magistrate Byarugaba ruled that the nine defendants had a case to answer, based on evidence presented by 13 prosecution witnesses.
The prosecution, led by Jonathan Muwaganya, alleges that the suspects forcibly entered Lubaga Miracle Cathedral on September 17, 2021, and proceeded to shout obscenities and intentionally harass Pastor Kayanja.
Following their arrest and detention, the suspects reportedly provided false statements to the police, claiming they were sodomized by Pastor Kayanja. However, medical examinations found no evidence to substantiate these claims.
The accused individuals are Peter Serugo, Reagan Ssentongo, Moses Tumwine, Khalifa Labeeb, Alex Wakamala, Martins Kagolo, Israel Wasswa, Jamil Mwanda, and Aggrey Kinene.
