Parliament halts ban on new pharmacies

David Kugonza | March 22, 2018

By Moses Kyeyune.

Parliament’s health committee has directed the National Drug Authority to lift the ban on the operations of new pharmacies in Kampala and other parts of the country.

This is after the MPs were convinced that the ban issued by the regulator had several discrepancies including conflict of interest.

The committee chaired by Bukuya County MP, Michal Bukenya has thus   tasked the NDA Board chairperson Dr.MedardBitekyerezo to effect the directive immediately.

Pharmacy owners petitioned parliament, complaining against the ban by the authority that barred the opening of new pharmacies in Kampala and major municipalities of Entebbe, Nansana, Kiira, Jinja and Mbale among others.
