Uganda’s Parliament on Thursday demanded that the government account for the whereabouts of alleged kidnapped members of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
This followed a report by the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LoP), Joel Ssenyonyi, who informed Parliament that seven NUP members had been abducted by unknown individuals and taken to undisclosed locations.
Ssenyonyi further stated that party leadership had attempted to intervene by reporting the matter to the police, but authorities denied any involvement in the arrests.
In response, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among instructed the government, through the Deputy Attorney General, to provide a full account of the missing individuals by Tuesday next week.
“Government, can I have an accountability of those people by Tuesday?” Among asked.
National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, announced on Monday evening that his elder brother, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, who also serves as the opposition party’s mobilisation chief, was abducted by heavily armed men and taken away in a “drone” to an unknown destination.
