Parliament’s Budget committee has blocked the release of more funds to cover arbitration costs, travel and operation expenses for a Ugandan delegation handling a suit filed by Heritage Oil.
The hearing of a case in which Heritage Oil sued Uganda over an oil tax disagreement amounting to about 1.1 trillion shillings started in London.
Officials from the Ministry of Finance, led by Maria Kiwanuka, were today tasked to explain the 11 billion shillings allocated to cover the costs as well as why government wants it released at one go.
Other legislators also wondered why government did not push for the case to be heard from the country to avoid any costly expenditure.
The committee has given the ministry one month to resolve the matter.
