A 13-year old Primary Seven candidate in Mpigi District has given birth while sitting for her Primary Leaving Examinations.
The incident happened at St. Balikuddembe Primary School, Jalamba Ward in Buwama Town Council, while pupils wrote their Mathematics exam.
The candidate whose name has been withheld is said to have gone into labor, just 20 minutes into her mathematics paper on Tuesday morning.
According to Godfrey Ssemanda, the headteacher, the girl entered the examination room with no sign of labor pain, and, “she was very happy and energetic.”
He adds that after 20 minutes, she called the invigilator and informed her about her health condition. A support team was immediately called to help the girl because the baby’s head was already out and she was rushed to a nearby clinic.
Mirembe Goreth, a nurse at the clinic says she managed to help both the girl and her baby that weighed three kilograms and are both and in good health.
The young mother was then taken back to complete the mathematics paper and the following paper in an isolated room at the same examination center.
