More than 700 foot pilgrims are expected to converge at Namurwotho Chapel in Nebbi district to prepare for flagging off for the Namugongo trek.
Sam Okaba, the chairperson national foot pilgrims committee says they will tomorrow be driven to Kamudini Junction, where they will be flagged off by Archbishop-elect Raphael Okorach from Gulu Archdiocese.
According to Okaba, the pilgrims’ first stop will be Bweyale along the Kampala-Gulu Highway.
He says they have so far received support from various corporate entities including telecom company MTN Uganda in the form of reflector jackets and refreshments.
The foot pilgrims are expected to trek all the way to Namugongo shrine in Wakiso District, covering a distance of about 272 KM for the annual Martyrs’ Day celebrations slated for June 3rd.
This year’s event is organised by Nebbi Diocese.
