By Benjamin Jumbe:

Members of the opposition in parliament have warned against any attempts to allow passing of the bill seeking to allow government compulsory acquisition of land.

The Government last week tabled before Parliament a bill seeking amendments to Article 26 to allow for compulsory acquisition of land for development.

Deputy Attorney General, Mwesigwa Rukutana said the bill seeks to enable government or a local government to deposit with court compensation awarded by the government for any property declared for compulsory acquisition.

Now the leader of opposition in parliament Winnie Kiiza expresses doubt that government will be able to adequately compensate all those that could be affected.

She now says they are to roll out a consultation campaign across the country over the issue starting tomorrow.
