Government has asked Ugandans not to give up on the preventive measures learnt against covid19 a year after the pandemic hit the country.
Today marks exactly one year after Uganda confirmed its first case of covid19 on March 21st 2020.
The confirmed case was of a 36-year-old male resident of Kibuli, Kakungulu zone in Kampala, who had travelled to Dubai on March 17, 2020 for a business trip and reportedly returned to Uganda on March 21, 2020 at around 2 am aboard Ethiopian airlines.
According to the ICT and national guidance minister Judith Nabakooba, it’s because of the strong enforcement and awareness that Uganda has managed to reduce the number of people catching the virus from 300 to under 20.
She has now asked people to continue wearing masks when in public, washing hands and social distancing further warning against spreading fear and false information about the vaccine that the country recently acquired.
Uganda has since acquired 964,000 of the AstraZeneca vaccine with vaccination ongoing in the country among the priority groups.
Uganda as of Saturday had 40,651 of covid-19 cases and 334 death cases.
