Five Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters, including Kampala City Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjula, Ingrid Turinawe, Faridah Nangonzi, Shadia Namubiru, and Phiona Kabayiza, have been remanded to Luzira Women’s Prison. They were charged with being a common nuisance after demanding the release of Dr. Kizza Besigye from Luzira Prison.
The five women appeared before the Buganda Road Magistrates Court and denied the allegations. They were remanded until February 25, 2025, to allow the prosecution to verify the documents presented by their sureties.
The prosecution alleges that on February 17, 2025, the women participated in an unauthorized procession on Ben Kiwanuka Street in Kampala. They were wearing blue T-shirts with the slogan “Kill Me, Spare Besigye,” and allegedly caused public annoyance and obstruction, thereby infringing on common rights.
The women face additional charges related to common nuisance, along with Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and others who were arrested for planning a march to the Kenyan High Commission in Kampala.
