National Water and Sewerage Corporation(NWSC) has designed a new water and sanitation system to cater for the growing number of pilgrims who often flock the Namugongo shrines.
While handing over a ten million shilling contribution by the Corporation towards the redevelopment of the shrines, Dr. Silver Mugisha the NWSC managing director said the Corporation has constructed a lagoon and installed water pipelines ahead of the Pope’s visit.
According to Engineer Alex Gisagara who is overseeing the civil works, traditionally, the shrines have been receiving an average of two million pilgrims who often faced that challenge of lack of toilets and bathrooms.
Pope Francis is expected to visit the Shrines on 28th and 29th November to celebrate the golden jubilee of the canonization of the Ugandan Martyrs.
