The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union has urged its members to continue working as they await a response from the government regarding their allowances for Covid-19 vaccination.

The union president Justus Cherop says the meeting they were to have with government officials this week has been deferred to next week on Monday.

Cherop had last week revealed that there was low morale among health workers carrying out covid19 vaccinations across the country.

He attributed this lack of enough allowances to enable them to afford breakfast, lunch, and water during the vaccination exercise.

Cherop meanwhile says much as the government enhanced their allowances from Shs 2,000 to shs 15,000, they were never informed that it would be subjected to a 30% tax leaving them with only Shs 7,000.

Nurses have been at the forefront of administering jabs during countrywide vaccination drives.
