A crisis looms in government hospitals as Nurses and Midwives announce slow-down strike.
Addressing journalists, the president Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union Justus Cherop said they are demanding for the fulfillment of Shs 15,000 which was pledged by the president as their lunch allowance in 2017.
The president made the pledge while speaking at the national celebrations for the International Day for Nurses and Midwives held at Kyamate secondary school playground in Ntungamo municipality that year.
He further called on the nurses to focus on service delivery above self, saying that the economy is still growing and cannot accommodate all their demands.
Now Cherop says although cabinet approved the allowance, the public service minister and other top officials informed them yesterday that no such money was allocated for the same this financial year.
Cherop says because of this, all nurses and midwives have resolved to take a duty break from 12:30pm to 2pm to look for lunch.
The slow strike will kick off next month, September.
