The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has unveiled a web-based whistleblower platform for aggrieved employees to report employers who fail to remit their contributions to the Fund, as required by law.
Unveiling the platform today, the NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba said more than 25,000 employers are meant to pay contributions for their workers.
However, upto 12,000 of these are not complying and of the 13,000 who are complying, only 8,900 are consistently remitting NSSF contributions for their employees.
It is illegal for an employer to withhold their employees’ social security contributions.
The NSSF Act prescribes a penalty of 10 per cent per month of the default amount and outstanding interest.
The Fund may also recover legal and related administrative costs from the defaulting employer.
