Court of Appeal has thrown out NRM’s Derrick Orone as MP for Gogonyo County in Paliisa District for campaigning on the voting day of January 14th.
Consequently, the Electoral Commission has been ordered to organize fresh elections to fill the now vacant post.
This is after three justices of the court led by Fredrick Egonda -Ntende have unanimously resolved to allow an election appeal by Orone’s political opponent Issa Taligola Bantalib in which he led evidence to the effect that MP Orone moved with armed police officers within the precincts of various polling stations while conversing for votes on the polling day.
According to the justices, this offense alone is enough to warrant a nullification of election results and setting aside a Highcourt decision that had upheld Orone’s election.
These justices have also ordered that MP Orone pays his opponent’s costs of the appeal.
