The ruling NRM’s Central Executive Committee has got five new members into its fold.
Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Justice Minister, Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, Defence Minister, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, former NRM deputy Secretary General, Dorothy Hyuha and Yumbe Woman MP, Huda Oleru were elected last evening in a tightly contested race during the National Executive meeting at State House.
The meeting, which kicked off at about 11 am yesterday had earlier endorsed Kasule Lumumba as the new Secretary General; Richard Todwong as her deputy; Rose Namayanja as national treasurer and Dr. Kenneth Omona to deputise her.
Sources who attended the NEC meeting said former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, who was absent during the meeting, was rejected by most members who accused him of trying to divide the party.
The current composition of CEC stands at 28, up from 23, following amendments to the NRM Constitution last year, in a move intended to deepen the decision making process within the party.
