Preparations for the city mayoral by-election are in high gear.
The ruling National Resistance Movement is today expected to start a two-day exercise of nominating its candidates for the race.
The Electoral Commission set April 17th as polling day despite a court order that stopping the impeachment of the embattled Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago by city councilors.
According to the NRM Kampala district chairman, Salim Uhuru, three people have so far picked forms.
They are: 2011 NRM candidate Peter Ssematimba, Pradeep Karia and Meddy Kasujja.
The exercise will however go on without participation of some political parties like the Forum for Democratic Change and Democratic Party which have vowed to stay away.
They claim that the by-election is illegal and is being held in contempt of court.
Yesterday, Lukwago filed another application before the High Court seeking to block the Electoral Commission from conducting the by election.
