The Ruling National Resistance Movement is challenging the results from yesterdays by election in Bukoto South Constituency.
Democratic Party’s Mathias Nsubuga was declared winner of the hotly contested race against his closest challenger; the NRM’s Alintuma Nsambu.
Nsubuga won the parliamentary race by a margin of 1,400.
However, the NRM electoral commission deputy chairperson Prof. Elijah Mushemeza tells KFM that the result was not a true reflection of the voters’ choice.
He says they are planning to file a petition in the High Court challenging the final result because the whole exercise was marred by violence, voter intimidation and alleged malpractice.
Analysts say this has dealt yet another major blow to the ruling party, which has lost six of the past seven by elections since the beginning of the year.
The Bukoto South Parliamentary seat fell vacant after court nullified the election of NRM’s Muyanja Mbaabali over lack of adequate academic qualification.
