The NRM Central Executive Committee meets today at State House Nakasero to discuss the report on irregularities in the 2010 party primaries.
The government chief whip Justine Lumumba Kasule has confirmed that about 25 CEC members are expected to attend the meeting.
She however denied reports that the meeting had specifically been called to discuss former Premier Amama Mbabazi’s position as Secretary General. Mbabazi is also expected to attend the meeting in his capacity as Secretary General.
Meanwhile, more calls are being made for the NRM Secretary General Amama Mbabazi to resign for the good of the party.
NRM caucus spokesperson Evelyn Anite says Mbabazi should save himself the public ridicule by resigning as a draft report from the countrywide consultations shows that he has lost public support.
The report which is to be tabled soon implicates Mbabazi of defying NRM rules and going against party interests.
