A section of leaders from Northern Uganda has expressed pessimism over the possibility of recovering the money lost in the Office of the Prime Ministers’ financial scandal.
This is after Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi refused to take responsibility and defended himself against accusations that he participated in the abuse of funds meant for rehabilitation of northern Uganda and Karamoja.
Earlier, Parliament cleared Mbabazi of any wrongdoing in the scandal involving abuse of more than Shs50 billion that was meant for the Peace, Recovery and Development Plan.
Now the Gulu district chairman is asking parliament to investigate the matter further to ensure that the lost funds are recovered.
In a minority report authored by the Kalungu West MP, Joseph Ssewungu, Mbabazi is accused of diverting funds to buy a car and other escort vehicles which he has rubbished as not based on facts.
