Members of the Uganda Young Democrats have added voice to those against the salary increment for members of parliament.
This follows a request of an extra 43 billion for salaries by the parliamentary commission
in the Budget frame work paper.
UYD’s Secretary General Charles Wasswa says the demand is unfair and intended to further commercialize the country’s politics.
Wasswa says Ugandans should rise against any individual MP who will go ahead with this proposal.
Currently each MP earns Shs.16.7m in salary and allowances.
If the commission’s request is approved by the treasury, each MP will earn extra Shs.11m annually.
Parliamentary staff will also benefit from the pay raise.
