MTN Uganda Management has dismissed media reports that client data was accessed during the recent raid on its data centre in Mutundwe.
The raid, widely reported by media houses, was carried out by armed security operatives allegedly belonging to the Chieftainancy of Military Intelligence and Internal Security Organisation.
However, in a statement read to the media, Mr Charles Mbire, MTN Uganda chairman said no data was accessed.
“The efforts were unsuccessful because of robust information security systems and no data data was accessed or compromised by the intruders,” Mr Mbire said.
Mr Mbire also said that the attempt to log into the company’s servers lasted two hours.
He said that the company is already handling the matter as a criminal case, with a complaint already registered with the CIID Headquarters in Kibuli at GEF 727/2018.
Mr Anthony Katamba, MTN Head of Corporate services says that they are closely working with government and the police to have the perpetrators brought to book.
The company management has disregarded any formal search related to security or tax compliance.
