With just a few days to the much anticipated first televised presidential debate, all candidates have been urged to ensure they turn up in person.
The executive director NGO Forum Richard Ssewakiryanga says such debates are useful for developing a civilized culture of healthy competition.
Ssewakirayanga has also lashed out at some of those candidates who have shunned the debate for various reasons.
Meanwhile, the opposition Democratic Party(DP) president Norbert Mao says candidates who cannot make time for the debates should be allowed to send representatives.
He is asking the Inter-Religious Council which is organizing the debate to look beyond the individual candidates and instead consider their parties.
Mao says with just two days to the first ever presidential debate, the ruling NRM’s Yoweri Museveni and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC’s) Dr. Kiiza Besigye are still non-committal, advising the organizers to accept representatives of those candidates.
The spokes person of president Yoweri Museveni’s campaign team Hon Mile Ssebalu said earlier that their candidate cannot take part in the debate because of his busy campaign schedule.
