Police in Masaka are holding a witch doctor for reportedly stealing shillings 5 million from a mobile money attendant.
Apollo Bwebale a wicth doctor and a resident of Kijonjo –Naluzali Village in Buwunga Masaka district has been arrested for allegedly stealing shillings 5 million from Florence Nalukenge a mobile money attendant along Elgin Street in Masaka.
It is alleged that the witch doctor lied to Nalukenge that the money she was using in her mobile money shop had a curse which could lead to the burning of her shop.
Nalukenge says that she accepted what Bwebale told her giving her the 5 million shillings as he had asked to take the money so that he can give it a blessing and end the curse.
She says that they agreed that within a few days Bwebale was to return the money but she waited for almost a month without getting her money back and he had switched off his phones which forced her to report the matter to police which arrested him.
She adds that he told her to buy a bag put in two parks of coffee seeds where she was to place the money after he had returned it but since last month Bwebale had cut off communication with her and he had resorted to sending her anonymous letters threatening her to stop following up the money or else she was to die in an accident.
The southern Region Police spokesperson Noah Sserunjoji has confirmed Bwebale’s arrest adding that police has also arrested his wife whom the mobile money attendant accused of conniving with to defraud her.
Sserunjoji has asked members of the public to always be cautious about allegations made to them by people like Bwebale wondering how Nalukenge could trust all her money with witchcraft practitioner to bless it.
He however says that Bwebale is likely to face charges of fraud and theft when police investigations are completed.
