Wildlife conservationists have asked lawmakers to enact punitive laws that will be used to protect the rare wildlife species which are getting extinct due to the increasing population pressure.
The acting manager at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), David Musingo says policymakers must come up with strategic measures which can be used to protect the wild habitant.
He says without taking such measures, the country will lose out in terms of protecting animals in the protected game reserves, which are helping the country get revenue.
He made the remarks on Wednesday while officiating the naming ceremony, where the Diamond Trust Bank was naming a baby giraffe, Diamond.
The baby giraffe which is now 6 months old recently lost its mother. Diamond Trust Bank also handed over Shs30 million to the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) to take care of the giraffe at Entebbe zoo.
Diamond lost her mother three months ago and now living with her father and another family giraffe at the centre.
