The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers have shot dead one suspected Turkana warrior from Kenya in the semi-arid region of north eastern Uganda.
The warrior was gunned down in a 20 minute gun exchange between UPDF and Turkana who had raided cows in Losilang village in Kotido district.
Capt. Abert Arinaitwe the UPDF 3rd division Spokesperson says six warriors had raided 30 heads of cattle and 33 goats and sheep from Kotido driving them to Kenya.
He adds that the army has recovered one SMS G gun with ammunitions from the dead warrior while others managed to flee leaving all the cows and goats that they had raided behind.
Karamoja region is currently hosting about 70,000 Turkana pastoralists who entered the country with more than 100,000 livestock following the persistent drought in northwest Kenya.
Separately, eight pastoralists both Turkanas and Karimojong have been admitted at Matany hospital in critical condition after they sustained serious injuries during the fight over water and pasture at Kobebe water dam in Moroto district.
