Presidential and parliamentary campaigns end today ahead of Thursday’s general elections.
The process that has lasted 60 days has seen candidates traverse different parts of the country hunting for votes amid tension especially among opposition candidates as security forces were enforcing covid-19 prevention guidelines issued by the ministry of health.
The electoral commission nominated 11 presidential candidates; the incumbent Yoweri Museveni for the NRM, Robert Kyagulanyi, for the National Unity Platform, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu of the Alliance for National Transformation, Eng Patrick Amuriat Oboi for Forum for Democratic Change, and Norbert Mao who is holding the Democratic Party flag.
The others who are all independent candidates are Gen Henry Tumukunde, John Katumba, Fred Mwesigye, Joseph Kabuleta, Willy Mayambala, and Nancy Kalembe the only woman in the race.
Meanwhile, president Museveni is expected to address the nation later this evening.
