Opposition members of parliament have threatened to opt for legal action if government does not consider the budget for Local Council election in the next financial year.
Early this year high court allowed the Electoral Commission to organize these elections, but the commission has since not made any move saying it needs extra funds to register students who had been left out.
However according to the Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze who also doubles as the shadow minister for local government, these are all lame excuses by government to delay local council elections.
She says if these additional funds are not catered for in next financial year’s, they will have no choice but to turn to court to question the motive.
However the commission spokesperson Jotham Talemwa said earlier that they had written to ministry of finance justifying the need for more funds, but have not received inappropriate response.
