The National Unity Platform (NUP) party announced Thursday that it had postponed the planned grand opening ceremony for its new head offices in Kawempe Division due to police and military interference.
According to a statement published on the party’s social media platforms, the ceremony has been pushed to Friday, November 3.
The party president, Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi says armed police and army officers blocked the ceremony, citing President Museveni’s presence in Kawempe on the same day.
“So the cowardly regime has all this manpower to block the official opening of our office, but they claim they don’t have the manpower to secure the function, even when we did not request for it,” Kyagulanyi posted on his X platform.
“Then they claimed they blocked it because Gen. Museveni is in Kawempe on the same day. Well, for the comfort and convenience of our guests, we are pushing the official opening to tomorrow and we hope they won’t come up with another excuse,” he added.
Kawempe Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Mr. Yasin Ndidde warned the party leaders against the event two days ago and asked them to suspend it on grounds that there will be ‘a lot of other VIP activities’ in the division.
