President Yoweri Museveni has offered part of his vast Kisozi farm in Maddu Sub-County, Gomba District to an Iranian investor to promote the growing and production of silk in the country.
The silk production project speared headed by Iran Agro Industrial Group is worth Shs.18.5 billion and will sit on 1,000 hectares of land.
The chairman of the Group Seyed Mohammad Ali says with the industry set up, Uganda will be able to produce over 10,000 metric tons of silk that will be exported to Iran because of its ready market.
Speaking at the official commissioning of the project the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Vicent Ssempija said government has embarked on giving out and more land for foreign investors who are interested in prioritising silk production in the country.
