Mob at Rakai has lynched a suspected pig thief setting his body ablaze.YokanaWalabye a resident of Katana Village, in Kyotera town council in Rakai district has been lynched by mob and his body set on fire for reportedly stealing a pig belonging to Peter Waswa.
Walabye ‘s trouble started when he attacked Waswa’s home last night making away with his pig.
Locals mounted a hunt for the stolen pig finding it at Walabyes’s home, pouncing on him beating him to death and after burning his body.
It took the intervention of Katana police officers but it was too late to save Walabye’s life because mob had already lynched him.
Locals claim that Walabye has been a habitual thief who is part of group of thugs that terrorize the area by stealing animals, food and house breaking among other crimes.
Noah Sserunjogi the Southern Region Police Spokesperson, has confirmed the incident saying that police has started a hunt for people that took part in killing Walabye .
Sserunjogi has however, condemned the incident saying that such cases should be reported to police instead of people taking laws into their own hands and kill suspects.
He says that police has not yet arrested anyone in connection with the murder but investigations into the matter have kicked off.
